About HB Underwriting

Kyle started his career in the insurance industry as a Personal Lines Underwriter. Since then, Kyle has worked in a number of insurance roles, covering positions as both an underwriter and working in development roles, both of which have given him experience working with both consumers and businesses. More recently, Kyle spent a number of years at NIG FarmWeb overseeing the underwriting of both Commercial and Agricultural business, working with brokers across the country. At Victor Insurance, he went on to develop and implement a new Farm Combined and Farm Motor agricultural product set for the MGA. Through his latest roles, Kyle found a flair for creating and developing new products and taking them to market, which is a core part of his role here at HB Underwriting. Kyle also heads up our operations, develops our sales and distribution strategy and oversees insurer relationships. In his spare time, Kyle can be found on the farm at home, painting and decorating a farmhouse whilst enjoying a Sauvignon Blanc!

Rob started work in the insurance sector in 2005, as a customer service adviser for CPP Group Plc. Here, Rob worked up to a Team Manager position, before moving to Assurant Intermediary in 2009, as a Business Development Officer, handling specific regions and brokers. In 2011, Rob moved to the position of Product & Marketing Manager, responsible for developing new products and insurer relationships, alongside creating and driving the marketing plan.

Rob joined HB Underwriting in 2017. As Sales & Development Manager, Rob trains our brokers on all aspects of our products and helps to support their sales teams. Rob also assists with maintaining our broker relationships and identifying new areas of product development.

Outside of work, Rob loves a gin and tonic and is a dedicated family man; he can often be found walking his dog in Ryedale or at local food festivals.

Laura started work in the insurance sector when she joined McClarrons insurance brokers in 2004 as a Commercial Account Handler. Laura was then promoted to the position of Commercial Team Leader, where she gained a great deal of knowledge and experience working with commercial clients.

In 2015, Laura took on a new opportunity, working with brokers through HB Underwriting. Laura has been with HB Underwriting since the very beginning, helping to set up the company, its systems and operations. Laura’s experience working as a broker helps her in her current role as an Underwriter as she truly understands the needs and concerns of HB Underwriting’s brokers.

As an Underwriter, Laura’s primary roles are to oversee underwriting referrals, monitor claims performance, financial performance and compliance, as well as training new members of staff.

In Laura’s spare time she is a leader at Cub Scouts and enjoys spending time with her family, going on camping holidays and bike rides.

Kayleigh joined the HB Underwriting team in 2018 as an Account Handler. Prior to this, Kayleigh worked for the APHA at one of their veterinary disease investigation centres, assisting farm animal and wildlife veterinary work and lab testing. Before this, Kayleigh worked for one of the largest racehorse trainers in the Malton area for 3 years.

Kayleigh’s interest and previous experience working with and for rural businesses is invaluable to HB Underwriting as she has an in-depth knowledge of the issues end-clients of our rural products face. In her role at HB Underwriting, Kayleigh oversees the accounts, referrals, claims and renewals, and assists with underwriting and data analysis, all whilst rapidly working to achieve her Certificate in Insurance.

As a keen gun, much of Kayleigh’s free time is filled with various country sports, in addition to her being a semi-professional artist.

Sean McClarron has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years, having formed insurance broker, McClarrons, in 1994. As a result of his experience working in the agricultural sector, Sean and his team developed ‘Rural Protect’– a specialist management liability policy for rural businesses – after having identified a significant gap in the market. With demand for the product high, Sean went on to form HB Underwriting, offering the product to brokers nationwide. Sean now acts as Chairman for HB Underwriting, which continues to expand and develop its product offering to both commercial and rural brokers, whilst maintaining his role as Managing Director of McClarrons. In his spare time, Sean enjoys country sports, travelling, eating good food and the odd G&T!
